STOP THE TAX INCREASES,
STOP OUR COUNTY GOVERNMENT
FROM INCREASING SPENDING!
Our Solution Is To Change County Government
Our petition seeks to give our county regional representation, which has until now been missing. The plan proposes to elect 5 commissioners to work 3/4 time with 2 seats being elected at-large (from anywhere in the county) and 3 seats being elected to represent three districts, a north, a south, and a central seat.
Our Plan Won't Increase Taxes!
The current 3 Utah County Commissioners get paid $119,000 plus benefits, totaling almost $150,000 per Commissioner. While our petition does increase the number of County Commissioners, it decreases the pay.
We Don't Want To Become Salt Lake County
This chart from the Utah County Taxpayers Association shows what Salt Lake pays for every 1,000 in per capita income to support its county government. Salt Lake County is double the tax bill of Utah County’s, even though Salt Lake is the largest county, and should have the smallest county tax bill. Utah County is the 2nd largest county. You can see that the least populous counties pay the most/even more! Utah county has the smallest county government tax bill of all 29 counties. We want to keep it that way. Salt Lake changed from a commission form of government to a mayor-council in 2000 and that, in turn, has increased the size, scope, and spending of their county government, which is why they pay more in county taxes.
• Our plan WILL NOT raise your taxes
• Utah County's grinches ultimately want to grow government any way they can, they would love to raise your taxes 200-300%, to Salt Lake levels.
• We have a plan that will bring you better representation

5 for the Price of 3! What a deal!!
The increase of 2 commissioners will facilitate the ability for the commissioners to freely discuss county issues in depth. Currently, under the Open and Public Meetings Act, if a quorum is present, a public meeting must be noticed. With a 3-member body, that means anytime 2 of the commissioners want to discuss county business, a public meeting must be noticed and held. Imagine trying to plan for girls camp while only being allowed to do so during sacrament meeting!
Under the proposed plan, 3 members is a quorum, which allows 2 members to speak freely at a time without holding a public meeting. Also, under the current form of governance, all it takes is 2 people to agree on something to decide the fate of the county. With a 5 member body, this requires 3 people to reach a consensus. It is a safeguard for us all.
No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched , never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! - President Ronald Reagan
